Meet Catty Ann

Dear Friends,
Thank you for expressing an interest in my new children’s story series, “The Adventures of Hayden and Shelby, ‘Welfare Cats.”  This series began as a memorial tribute to my mother.  Mom was a very special person. She was kind-hearted and gentle, a nurturer of people and animals.  Mom’s gifted “green thumb” made all things she touched grow and blossom, especially me.  When Mom was confined to a wheelchair in later years, she found great comfort and joy in the company of our many rescue cats, and she believed their story should be told.  Thus, the series was born.
The idea behind this book and the series is to raise awareness about the plight of unwanted cats.  This story is told from the cats’ perspective and is about what one married couple did to make a difference, in their small corner of the world, to help these animals.  “The Adventures of Hayden and Shelby, ‘Welfare Cats,” is a tale of the adventures of two cats and their friends.   In this instance, the “adventure” for this cast of characters is going from being abandoned, to being rescued, to ultimately finding a forever home and love.
Each book goes on to entertain and teach. . . there is a spooky Halloween tale, a touching Christmas story edition and, of course, much, much more.  I consider each story an apologue for a variety of basic moral lessons, such as caring and helpfulness, kindness and sharing.  A common reoccuring theme stressed in each book is love and need of it for animals and humans alike.  This adventure series illustrates how animals, in particular cats, touch and enrich the lives of each other and their human parents.  These stories demonstrate the many human-like qualities of cats by giving insight into their distinctive personalties and depth of feeling and emotion, countering the common sterotype that they are aloof and self-serving.  Instead, we see how much love cats have to offer, if given the chance.
It is my wish as the author of “The Adventures of Hayden and Shelby, ‘Welfare Cats” to encourage people to look outside themselves and to think of others, in particular, those others who may not be human, but whose lives are just as important.  Who knows, maybe these books will inspire more people to follow suit, and like “Mom and Dad” in the story, start their own big, “happy family” by establishing a cat, or dog, or any other animal shelter of their own.  And if this is so, then it was all worth it!
